Woah… I’ve just seen last week’s ep of Bones – “The Patriot in Purgatory” – and well…after I wasn’t that happy with Bones in all those past weeks they really got me this time…

I fell in love with this show a long time ago, mostly because I really love the books by Kathy Reichs and so I started watching the show. Even though book-Tempe and tv-Tempe are two very different persons there are enough parallels to love both. And of course there was a shipper pairing I rooted for from the start. When the TPTB finally decided to bring those two together they already had done that will-they-won’t-they-thingie for way too long but nevertheless I continued watching the show even though I wasn’t really happy with it anymore…I really love it when “my” shipper pairings get a chance to be together but something didn’t really click with Brennan and Booth and to be honest, the stories haven’t been that good in quite a while…until the “The Patriot in Purgatory…
Stephen Nathan…my respects for the awesome script and all the actors that played a part in that ep. As I said above – you really got me this time…and I’m not admitting that very often – ask Liz if you don’t believe me. 😉
So what happened that made me so confused and still sorting my feelings and forgetting about Once for at least over an hour – a first in the last weeks… *cough* Yepp, I’m a geek, I know…but back to the topic at hand.
Bones gets all of her interns together in the lab – not to solve a recent case but to start to identify the victims that have been stored in the “limbo”…or as Fisher puts it: “We’ve been relegated to the hall of hopeless cases?”. Since the Jeffersonian has digitized all available missing persons reports it should now be possible to identify more of the victims that have been stored there…and so the interns start working and making good progress, all but Mr. Vaziri…
Ok, first and only spoiler warning – who hasn’t seen the ep should stop reading NOW – don’t say you haven’t been warned! 😉
… his victim was a homeless guy so the first autopsy wasn’t nearly as thorough as it should have been. And this guy has some puzzling injuries like an old gunshot wound. As it turns out he has been a soldier in the first Gulf War and it seems to be that he got injured around at September 11t…2001…and well…I think we all remember what happened at that day…
The victim was in front of the Pentagon was attacked and he even saved some lives and lost his own this way since he got injured by saving the others but never went to a hospital to get his own wounds fixed up…so he died a hero and nobody ever realized that, until now.
That storyline alone makes me think a lot even though over here in Germany we haven’t been that much affected by those attacks – but I have been at Ground Zero some years ago and I can imagine how hard it must have been for that city and its people to lose so much and be reminded of that every day because the city was changed forever… I’ve never been to NYC before and nevertheless I really missed the Twin Towers in Manhattan…it’s just that you got used to that postcard picture so much and suddenly there is something important missing…
But well…when Stephen Nathan is telling good and heartbreaking stories he does it right…and so we not only mourn for that unsung hero, no, we also get to know how the interns learned about 09/11, that was very hard for them to share and for me to hear and see but also that Cam has been a coroner in NYC at that time (writing 900 death certificates…I’m still trying to grasp that number) and that Bones has been there for 2 weeks to identify the victims…and when she admitted to Booth that she was kind of proud of herself that she has been professional for that time and hadn’t shed a single tear but now thinking back to that time and having a family she is devastated and well…I was hit hard by that ep before…after that I was a puddle on the floor…and still am…I’m not one who writes a lot (just look at my many blog posts *cough*) or shares feelings that much (hey, I don’t need a psychiatrist to realize why I’m always drawn to the broken charas on tv shows ;)) but well…this time I *had* to share…so please be gentle… 😉
Seeing this ep I was back in 2001 when I got home from school and saw those pictures on the tv that seemed to be right out of an action movie…and still they were much more disturbing because they were real… Ok, I never really agreed with the American “We-are-the-world-police”-attitude but nobody deserves that…When soldiers go into battle they are trained for those situations (and still it’s so very wrong how we kill each other over so many stupid things) but on this day way too many innocent people died. And in my opinion a lot of folks are still suffering from the attack of so few misguided men.
Why is it so hard for some to accept that we are different and still the same…in the end we are all just human and we have to share this little planet or else we are all doomed…and nobody can really want that. And no, I won’t turn this post into a political or religious one. I won’t never dare to tell someone what he or she has to believe, I think everyone should get the chance to make a mind of his/her own and decide for oneself what’s best…In my humble opinion there is no right or wrong religion – as long as everybody follows one’s own believes without harming others…well, if it just could be that simple…
09/11 that was 11 years ago and still this date is still on everyone’s mind there are very few dates in history that are so well remembered like this one and it makes me sad that we all remember it because it wasn’t one of humanity’s best days and the things that followed haven’t made the planet a safer place even if Georgie Boy wanted to tell us differently. I really hope that someday SOON we will all learn to live together in peace but seeing what happens right now in the Middle East I fear that day won’t come soon *sigh*

Waaahhow can just one ep of a show that I haven’t even intensely watched in the last few *years* spin me around so much?! And noI won’t answer that right now or I’ll never find an end to that post 😉
